A porous material is one that contains many spaces, called pores, within a skeleton of material, often called the matrix or the frame. A porous structure is what gives many natural materials their excellent mechanical strength, like bamboo or bone. Printing with porous filaments is a rapidly growing area as the benefits are becoming more apparent.
High growth in industries such as porous ceramics in conjunction with 3D printing is resulting in the production of 3D printing filaments with truly excellent strength to weight ratios. Porous materials have also shown to be effective for usages that include heat exchange, energy storage and filtration.
