Silk 3D printing filaments are polymer variations used for predominantly visual purposes. They have an attractive, glossy finish that is retained throughout printing, giving the final product a shiny quality. Due to their attractive finish, silk filaments are primarily used for aesthetic or decorative purposes.
There are multiple ways to achieve a silk effect, one of which is through the use of lignin. Lignin is a natural compound found in wood. Lignin is heavily produced for usage in the paper industry and is biodegradable, making it ideal for mixing with PLA. It is important to know the difference between biodegradable and compostable material.
Silk filaments normally print with settings similar to that of their base polymer however the addition of lignin or other additives may alter this slights so always check the Technical Data Sheet.
